Welcome to my new Substack blog “The Shedding”.
My name is Dilar Dirik. I am a politically-engaged researcher and writer.
Trained in social sciences and humanities, I hold a PhD in Sociology from the University of Cambridge. Over the course of ten years, I conducted extensive and in-depth qualitative research on the Kurdistan freedom movement, with a focus on the autonomous women’s struggle. My book, “The Kurdish Women’s Movement: History, Theory, Practice”, was published in 2022 with Pluto Press. From 2019 until 2023, I held a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Oxford. My work has been published in various academic, activist and media outlets, and translated into different languages.
You can find a list of my work here on my Linktree, including downloadable PDFs.
A bit more than a year before launching this blog, I left academia. At the moment, I am in a process of self-critical reflection about my trajectory, while working on new topics. On this blog, I will document my thoughts and also share some of my work. I also want to use it for commentary on ongoing political, social, and cultural issues. Hopefully, after years of trying to function in ways that betrayed my independence, creativity, and spirit, this will create some experimental space for self-expression.
You can subscribe (of course, for free) if you would like the posts to be delivered directly to your email inbox. Thank you for your interest.
